Radical Hospitality
Jesus had this amazing ability to reach out to all people without discrimination. We are practicing offering hospitality to all people (Romans 12:13). If you’ve been warmly welcomed...pass it on!
Fall Fest
Our best example of giving it all away! This blow out party for the community is a great family event where everything is FREE! Ponies, games, hayride, food, inflatables and more—FREE! First Sunday of October from 4–7 pm in the church parking lot. Everyone is invited!
Pizza With the Pastors
If you’re new to the area or new to the church, let the pastors treat you to a pizza meal and say hello. This informal gathering is held on the second weekend of the month after Saturday and Sunday worship. No need to RSVP, just come!
Angel Breakfast
The Christmas season is a blur of activities that have the family running in a million different directions, but the Angel Breakfast can bring you together again! This FREE breakfast is a fun way to put the Christ back in Christmas with lots of neat family faith building activities. December 5 at the church. Contact Billi Hollar for more information at 419.991.4806 ext. 104.
Outreach Team
Do you like to smile? Do people say you’re friendly? Maybe you’d like to welcome others to worship or write a note to those who visit for the first time. If so, contact Jack Black at 419.991.4806.
Are You New?
Welcome! We’re glad you’re here! Do you feel a little nervous about visiting Shawnee UMC for the first time? Then this section is for you! We want to make it as easy as possible for you. If you’re more the adventurous type and prefer surprises, then don’t read this! Just show up Saturday at 6, or Sunday at 9 or 11! We’ll have the coffee ready!
How Do I Get There?
Shawnee UMC is located on the northwest corner of Shawnee and Zurmehly Roads. The Dairy Queen is catty-corner from the church. (We like to stop by after worship for a Blizzard!)
Use the slide on the left to zoom in and out of the map. Hover over the orange place marker to get directions to the church. If you have any questions, please call Cathy in the Church Office at 419 991 4806 ext. 5. She is more than happy to help!
What Is It Like?
Well, that depends on when you’re here! Our Saturday Night Worship service at 6 PM is very casual and relaxed. We have a band (a really great band!) that plays praise and worship music (these are the songs that you can sing along with—we put the words up on two big screens at the front of the room for you) at the beginning of the service and a number of special music numbers during the service. (Special Music are the songs that we don’t sing along with—we just enjoy them as they enhance our worship experience.) We read a few scriptures from the Bible (these are up on the screens too so you can follow along.) We collect an offering (when you attend for the first time, please don’t put anything in the offering basket! In fact, we will give you a gift instead!) and after the offering we have a prayer time. (One of the pastors will pray out loud up front and everyone else prays silently in their seats.) Towards the end of the service one of the pastors will give a sermon. The whole service lasts about an hour.
Where Do My Kids Go?
We want your kids to have a great experience while you are in the worship service! Your infants and toddlers will be cared for in our Tiny Stars Nursery and/or Little Explorers Class for two-and-three-year-olds.
Your kids who are ages four through 4th grade will go to B.L.A.S.T. These kids should be checked into their classes each week. Here’s more info about our Children’s Ministry.
Middle School (grades 5 through 8) and High School (grades 9 through 12) stay in the service with their parents. Here’s more info about our Edge and Beyond Youth Ministry.
How Should I Dress?
You can dress however you feel most comfortable! Our Saturday Night Worship is the most casual of all our services. Most people wear something like jeans and a t–shirt. Sunday morning at 9 AM has the biggest mix of dress styles. Everything from business suits to jeans can be seen. Sunday Morning at 11 AM is similar to 9 AM in that you will see a wide range of styles—but, 11 AM tends to be more casual overall.
